Ants Float - Taking the Little Bits in Stride


It was going to be a busy Saturday filled with friends and family and I needed a good breakfast. The freezer called to me with the frozen cinnamon raisin French toast that I had made a few days earlier and I heated it up absentmindedly.

Reading the paper, drinking coffee and eating my French toast with the sun streaming in my window, I was a happy camper until my very last bite. As I brought the fork to my mouth I realized that the little black spots that I had assumed to be cinnamon were indeed ants that had infested my syrup. Eeewww. One look down at the remaining syrup confirmed my suspicions as many little ant-bodies floated on my plate.

With my fork in midair, I contemplated my options. Eat the last bite. After all, I had already eaten most of them. Go to the bathroom and barf. Not a good way to start my day. Accept it as the bad breakfast it was and move on. Protein does come in many forms.

Smiling, I put my fork down deciding against the last bite, washed them down with more black coffee and started on my to-do list.
It reminded me that some days things just don't to the way we plan. We must make the choice each morning to positively respond to whatever circumstances come our way. This one was very minor but how I react to the minor annoyances of life can set the pattern for how I react to the larger things. And when the time comes, I want to see the glass half-full and respond with laughter rather than anger.

I got a lot done that day - for some reason I just felt antsy.
